Just two or three weeks ago... the ground was pretty much still covered with snow. And then came the big thaw... That first near-50ºF day almost felt like summer to me! And since then came the upper 50s... and then low 60s... and today near 70ºF! And all that warm sunshine.The long view still looks fairly brown and bare and matted down with last fall's leftovers... but increasingly tinted in the the yellow-green of budding willows... and the beginnings of bright green in the lawns. And the smell of wet earth is everywhere.Walking on the boardwalk through the Ferson Creek Fen nature preserve (along the Fox River in St. Charles, IL)... all that brand new spring green along the waterline was a clear promise that the bare branches of the shrubs and trees above would not remain bare much longer.Ahhhh... spring!– – – – – – – – – –Some of the first green of spring... larger on white.

It was the first really warm and spring-like day of the year. I just had to get outside during my lunch break from work. Picked up a Wendy's chicken sandwich and headed to Charlestown Mall, 5 minutes from work. I enjoyed the sun and photographing the geese and gulls that gather on the retention ponds.
