At Norris Woods in St Charles, Kane County, Illinois, I got my FTP (First Time Photographed) Summer Tanager and thought I also captured my FTP Philadelphia Vireo. Several photos consistently show apparently shorter tail than Red-eyed Vireos that were also present. Song sounded sharper than that of Red-eyed. The dark line over its eye does cause me concern as it suggests Red-eyed Vireo pattern. My perception of smaller size than Red-eyed cannot be given too much weight, as this is unreliable in the field. Other opinions welcomed. [Thanks, Paul and Jonner, for also pointing out the lack of yellow on its underparts.] This is indeed a Red-eyed Vireo. Visit blog.rosyfinch.com

OK, I was fiddling with the camera too much and Perry wanted to eat his delicious cobb salad. And I'm amazed there's no red-eye. Dang, this is a neat camera...when I set it on Auto.WSCF Third Tuesday Meetupwww.flickr.com/groups/wscf/discuss/72157629591436538/The OfficeSt. Charles, IllinoisMay 16, 2012It's amazing that we never take a lot of pictures at these dinners. Everything in this life has a purpose. And it appears to me that the single purpose of all dandelions... is simply to make many more dandelions. All that's needed is a good stiff breeze to carry the seeds far and wide... and these guys are history. Much like the daylight in the background.Ah... the circle of life!– – – – – – – – – –'End of the day' light on the dandelions... larger on white...

We visited Hawk's Bluff Park about 1 hour before sunset. While the granddaughters played I walked the wooded area and saw no warblers, but 4 Scarlet Tanagers appeared. They mostly foraged high in the oak trees, but one was relatively cooperative and came out into the sun. As it got darker I cranked the ISO up to 1000. Visit blog.rosyfinch.com

wanted to shoot the "supermoon" Saturday, but we were stuck in the burbs most of the night due to a birthday party at my least-favorite bar in the known universe. ......that turned into a drama filled drunken mess. (not me, I was designated driver)so.....after getting back home to the sticks at around 5am, I went out to take some shots of the moon as it was fading and the dawn colors were starting to creep into the sky.this freight went by as I was shooting, faster than I've ever seen one go at this crossing, almost blew me backwards with the force of the wind it created.....but still grabbed a few shots of it.super spur of the moment shoooting spree, so no tripod, no favorite lens.....this was handheld with one of my kit lenses, I think the 18-55.some sorta okay/sorta crappy "supermoon" shots coming soon.and.........I learned I am far too old to stay awake for 40 hours straight. :P
