The Elgin Area Historical Society will unveil a new exhibit this Sunday, March 13th from 1-4pm. The exhibit is called From River to Rails: Elgin 1870-1910. It includes a heritage cooking demonstration. Admission is free.

Friends of Dave Kaptain gathered at Villa Verone in downtown Elgin on Thursday night to support his grassroots campaign for mayor. Mr. Kaptain himself played the role of “celebrity bartender.” Villa Verone, an Italian restaurant and bar, regularly designates an Elgin Person of the Week who does light bartending duties for the evening.

Elgin OPERA celebrates its 10th annniversary this weekend with a gala concert at the Hemmens.

How about this for a crazy idea? Let’s make dinner and invite everybody in town. Well, it’s happening…again. Apparently this happens four times a year in Elgin: twice in summer, on Thanksgiving and on/before Valentine’s Day. This year, the Valentine’s Day dinner (or lunch if you want to be picky) will take place on Sunday from 11-2pm.
