You can avoid crowds, traffic, long drives and drunk drivers by spending New Year’s Eve in Downtown Elgin. Courtesy of the Downtown Neighborhood Association here’s a list of some downtown establishments that will be open for celebrations.

Elgin Public House, 219 E. Chicago Street

Ring in the new year on Friday, December 31 at Elgin Public House at 219 E. Chicago Street.

Welcome 2011 with music by Street Corner Blues and party with EPH’s great dinner and drinks package.

For only $75 you get a soup or salad, any entree on the menu or specials menu and a mini dessert. You can choose from many beers, wines, and liquors that will be included as well (and it’s not just well drinks!)

The drink package is valid from 9pm to 1am.

Villa Verone Ristorante Italiano, 13 Douglas Avenue

Say goodbye to 2010 and hello to 2011 on Friday, December 31 at Villa Verone’s New Years Eve!

Red Bar Winery & Bistro, 74 S. Grove Avenue

On Friday, December 31 beginning at 9pm, bid 2010 a fond farewell at Red Bar Winery & Bistro.

For $100 per person or $175 per couple, enjoy a Four-Hour Open Bar (9pm-1am - shots not included) as well as a DJ, dancing and a champagne toast and ballon drop at midnight. Also enjoy Red Bar’s scrumptious buffet of warm butter poached shrimp, crab cakes, baked ham, various appetizers and desserts and a light breakfast.

Martini Room, 161 E. Chicago Street

Celebrate your New Years Eve in Martini Room’s enjoyable, urban lounge setting with NO COVER CHARGE!

The night will feature a complimentary champagne toast at midnight and featured specials for the evening include:

- Champagne Taste Martini - a mixture of clementine vodka, x-rated fusion liqueur and pomegranate juice w/champagne - $6
- Spiced Raspberry Spritzer - $4
- Special shot - $2 all night long

Martini Room’s DJ will get the dance floor going at 10pm. Doors open until 4am and remember there is NO COVER charge!

Also, Gasthaus is having a punk rock extravaganza called Ian’s Party, but it’s not clear to me if that wraps up before midnight or not. Anybody with more info on that can post it in the comments section.
