Walnut Street Speakeasy
Finally got in to check out the Speakeasy and was totally surprised. The owners really put a lot into this place. They are also bringing out some solid blues bands from Chicago and have a great beer list.

Just read about the 2010 Elgin pub crawl on downtownelgin.blogspot.com, and noticed that Mad Maggies is apparently closed and will be re-opening as Hangout Club and Grill… anyone know anything about this? Is it new owners, are they changing the menus, changing the interior, etc?
I was just about to post the same thing! I heard from someone that they had closed last week, so I drove by to see if they were open and it looked like business as usual. The signs still said Mad Maggies, the neon signs were on and it looked like someone was walking in. I did hear a few weeks ago that they were going to make some changes but nothing about the name changing. I may stop in tonight to find out what the deal is.

I drove by on my way home and they were closed. Maybe they were just cleaning up when I rode by before.
Now I am really confused. I drove by again tonight and they were open. There were people standing outside and all the signs including the open sign were on. I didn’t have time to stop in but I may try to this weekend.
Hmmm… weird.
They were open today. Texas in July performing.
I rode by last night, Friday, and they looked closed. I wonder if they are opening for prior obligations while changing things up.
