Have free fun with the family this winter at City Skate, Elgin’s outdoor ice rink, now open for the season! City Skate is conveniently located on the Civic Center Plaza, between Hemmens Auditorium and City Hall. Free parking is available at The Centre Parking deck, or in the Civic Center parking lot at Douglas and Highland Avenue.
The ice rink is open and free to the public from 9:00a.m.-9:00 p.m. daily, with $4.00 ice skate rental available with identification and during warming shelter hours only. Warming shelter hours are Monday through Friday, 4:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., Saturdays 12:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. and Sundays 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. During School District U-46 days off and holiday breaks, the warming shelter hours will be extended to 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

The ice rink does close occasionally for private events and ice skating lessons. Please call the information line at 847-931-6140 or visit www.cityofelgin.org for updates on hours and ice conditions.

    Our family has very much appreciated having this activity throughout the winter months for several years! We’ve been skating around 20 times this winter alone.

    Thank you to the City of Elgin for offering this to it’s citizens. Please continue this tradition!

    In days gone by in 60’s and maybe 70’s I can remember enjoying skating on the Lords Park Lagoon. You would have enjoyed that too I believe.

    The Lords Park lagoons were great when there was no road salt runoff and the water would freeze. People still call the Museum every year to ask about skating on the lagoon. Wish we could tell them yes. The city rink is a really nice substitute, though.

    I absolutely love the photos that appear on this site. The depth of field use is magnificent and so is the use of light. This is truly art.

    Even if I were to be banned from commenting here (GASP))I would still visit this site for the photos.
