Mark Kirk will hold town hall meeting
Area Congressmen Bill Foster (D-IL) and Melissa Bean (D-IL) have yet to hold public town hall meetings to discuss health care. Ms. Bean did hold a $25 town hall, which drew criticism from some quarters, while Progressive Fox, on the left, and Illinois Review, on the right, have speculated that Mr. Foster spends little time in the district.
North Shore Congressman Mark Kirk (R-IL), the likely Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Roland Burris (D-IL) announced Friday that he will hold a public town hall meeting in Arlington Heights to discuss health care.
Monday, August 24
Arlington Heights Village Hall
Village Board Room
33 South Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights
3:00 p.m.
In related news, Andy McKenna has resigned as ILGOP chief.

congressman kirk-good for you, for holding town hall meetings. sorry that i was not there, but i am with you. please continue to work hard for us–social security and medicare in peril–i am not in favor of the health care plan as it is being presented now.
it appears our system is being flooded and overwhelmed. i will support our country, remembering to hold to the truth and speak without fear. thank you and keep up the good work|||
The meeting was very informative & once inside, quite civilized. Pro-government Obama health care persons had a bullhorn & blew whistles in front of City Hall, very disruptive. They held 2 meetings, back to back, way too many people for only one & not enough seats for either. The meeting itself was very informative, rough guess that 75-80% of the people in the second meeting were NOT for Govt sponsored health care, but supported Kirks desire to reform the insurance industry.
Generally accepted numbers are that there are approx 45 million uninsured. When you subtract illegals, persons who were only temporarily uninsured (job change, college students), and those who CHOOSE to not insure & those who earn OVER $84,000, the number drops to about 8 million low income people who do not have health insurance.
The problem with town hall meetings is that they let illegal aliens in to speak and carry signs. Illegal aliens. You know, the ones who have no rights to anything that goes on in these meetings.
Ask at the door for a state ID and watch the herd thin out.
The process goes on, the question, is it getting better or worse? How much do our elected officials really know on local and national levels? Do you feel comfortable about things lately, like in the 70’s. I sure don’t. Do they act like they have a grip on issues pertaining to them, or are they winging it! I do like Mark Kirk, he has always had sound judgement and direction. I also did some research on his illegal immigration issues. When on the net next time, type in Mark Kirk Illegal Immigration. Speaking of the economy, Elgin needs to skim off 5,000,000 yes five million, off the budget for 2010. Word has it that the Lords park zoo is one million with the feed and all the rest that goes with it. If it goes, what becomes of the space, should the zoo go at all? How about the new golf course, Bowes Creek? It was thought, by some on the past council, that this would attract new homeowners in the 400,000 range and up. However, no one is really going anywhere lately. So, should we continue with Bowes Creek? Employee’s with or without a contract, Police and Fire, with our city may have some major changes coming up. As do the rest of us. How will the city address future overtime, paid holidays, furlough days, or if the unions buck, possible job cuts! Five Mil is a lot to skim. I heard Mr. Ken Barnhart of Elgin is very upset of the zoo issue, he lives in the area. I met him a couple of times, he was a very nice man and pleasant to be with. My wife and I go out of our way to fill up at his gas station, the BP on 25 near the tollway. Lets stay tuned, enjoy the cooler weather.
I don’t feel comfortable at all with the way things are. All levels of government do not have enough money coming in to fund everyone what they promised. So eventually a lot is going to be cut or our taxes are going to be raised at all levels of government.
I DON’T WANT MY TAXES RAISED.
I will give you my thoughts on the golf course in another post.
Unless the zoo group can pull a miracle and come up with sound corporate and public funding the zoo is a budget cut because of the precarious times we are in. It wasn’t a best in class zoo and so as much as I would like to see the bison stay where they are they won’t survive the budget cuts. I hope they end up at Randall Oaks.
This is what I posted regarding a Courier golf course article and the first paragraph is from that Courier article:
Although there was no way to predict that a recession would coincide with the opening of Bowes Creek and the new holes at The Highlands, Lehman realizes there is a sense of urgency when it comes to helping the city get a return on its golf investment.

As I listened to long, long time Elgin resident Jim Johnston addressing the city council and stating that he would like the city to pay the 100 percent of the possible solution to his sewer backing up into his basement by installing an overhead sewer at a 10,000 or so cost I can’t do anything but sympathize with him and try and shame the council into paying his entire request with a SENSE OF URGENCY that they have for the beloved golf courses of Elgin.
Since 1972 it has been a mandate to fix his sewer and yes, the council in the past and the current one are getting around to it but the urgency is lacking as some homes are not scheduled to have a properly working sewers for 20-30 years from now.
By that time we will probably have another couple golf courses.
Mr. Johnston and others with inadequate sewers are not worried about a golf course they are worried about the health risks and property devaluation of having a sewer that backs up when it rains too hard.
You live in Elgin all your life paying taxes and the city says your sewer backing up might be fixed by spending about 10,000 and they will pay half of that for your inadequate sewer and you get to pay the other half.
But don’t worry we are doing all we can do to get the golf course done so after you clean up the sewage back up after a hard rain you can play a nice refreshing and healthy game of golf.
It just doesn’t make common sense to me.
Kirk was one of the very few Republicans voting for Cap and Trade energy policy essentially socializing US energy production and usage which WILL result in more unemployment and drastically higher energy costs.
Kirk bucked the Republican party line with this vote. And then he turned around and threw his hat in the ring for US Senator!
He doesn’t stand a chance in hell of winning that seat. Not when even Republicans can’t trust him to do the nominally correct thing. His actions have already spoken louder than anything he can possibly say, going forward. You are done Kirk. I doubt you could win your congressional seat again, now.
Real elephants have long memories.
