Elgin: “Fattest City” on Drudge Report
Check today’s Drudge Report to see a link to this CBS2 story
Elgin was recently named the fattest city in Illinois. The dubious distinction was revealed by City Councilman David Kaptain, who said he saw it in a study based on driver’s license data. But Kaptain said he couldn’t remember where he found the study, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Nonetheless, Elgin officials are now offering “fitness grants” to coax people into healthier lifestyles.
On Drudge, look for where it says, “Fattest City In Illinois Offers ‘Fitness Grants’…”
Now everybody in America knows we’re fat. Fattastic!
Actually we are not fat, just well marbled…

David Kaptain single handedly named Elgin the fattest city in Illinois. I hope you saw the Chicago Tribune story.
—————
The campaign was based in part on a reputed 2006 survey of height and weight information on Illinois driver’s licenses that concluded Elgin was the fattest city in the state.
But there is confusion about how Elgin secured the Land of Lincoln’s heavyweight title. A Web site for Activate Elgin referred to “Illinois Secretary of State Driver’s License Facility Data, 2006.”
But spokesman Dave Druker said the office did not conduct such a study. Officials with the state Departments of Public Health and Transportation likewise disavowed it.
The source apparently was City Councilman David Kaptain, who admits he was the first to bring the news to the attention of other city officials.
Kaptain said he saw driver’s license results that listed Elgin as the fattest community in the state but now can’t remember where he spotted the information.

Thanks for the link. Yeah, I’m sort of surprised it did not occur to anybody at city hall to verify the ‘fattest city’ claim before they did all the things that would inevitably publicize it.
