Gail Borden Rakow Branch Library Opening
Via the GBL site:
Come and celebrate your new branch library. On Saturday, August 15 1 - 5 p.m. the community is invited to celebrate the opening of the new west side “green” Rakow Branch, 2751 W. Bowes Road. Entertainment for the day will include juggler, Andy Head, magician, Ken Mate, and the Fox Valley Men of Harmony. Ribbon cutting and the opening ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. Tours of the branch will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will commence every half hour until 4:30 p.m. Because large crowds are expected for the open house, tickets will be needed for the tours. The free tickets are available at the Greeter Desk and Second Floor Information Desk at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave. The open house will also feature entertainment, light refreshments, a children’s craft and information about “A Green Story, The Fox River Mural.”
This is the Gail Borden Public Library’s Far West Side branch library. I stopped by to take a few pictures and was impressed with the exterior of the building.

Thanks for helping to get the word out with the beautiful presentation.
My pleasure! I hope to get some interior pictures soon :)
I saw the new extension library today. For anyone that is going south on Randall and they see the sign that says Bowes Rd detour use Silver Glen don’t worry, you can turn right onto Bowes and the library will be a few blocks down on your left. I don’t get out that way much so I was not sure if turning right on Bowes would get me to it but it did.
It looks to me if as the main library downtown is closer to my home so I will continue going to that one. It has so much more to offer.

I’ve added more pictures to the slideshow. Please enjoy!
I noticed that the slideshow does something funny with diagonal lines, so I also uploaded the pictures to flickr:

Nice photos! The library has a very interesting set-up. It’s arranged more like a book store than a library. Let us know how the 24/7 DVD dispenser goes if you try it out. I’m not close enough to use it.
