Judson graduate to run for Congress

24 July 2009 RS One Comment

Illinois Review reports that Judson University graduate Mark Vargas will seek the Republican nomination to run for the 14th Congressional District seat now held by Representative Bill Foster (D-IL).

Mark Vargas, who grew up in St. Charles, has been working for the past few years in Iraq for Defense Secretary William Gates. He says he’s worked in tough combat conditions to turn around a devastated economy, and believes much of what he’s learned in Iraq can be used to build back the economy in his home district. (Illinois Review)

He joins a sparsely populated field that includes Jeff Danklefsen and Ethan Hastert. Mr. Danklefsen, of Geneva, is a property maintenance manager. Mr. Hastert, of Elburn, is a lawyer and the son of Dennis Hastert, the former representative and speaker.

It does not appear that Mr. Foster will face a challenger in the Democratic primary.
