The 2009 Kane County Fair opens Wednesday, July 15th and runs through Sunday, July 19th.

Hi Ladies and Gents, I was shocked last summer when my wife and I stopped by the Kane County fair as we were passing by from another event. Upon entering, I remember telling my wife, I have not been to a rodeo in over 20 years, I am now 50. After looking around, we decided go to the stands and sit to watch the animal events. First came the horse events, I thought of Christopher Reaves, why would someone want to put themselves through this if an accident accured. Then came the calf roping. Here is where the day ended! A young boy behind us started asking his mother, mom, why are they hurting the baby cow like that, then he started getting louder and upset. The mother spoke to I guess the dad, and they stood up and left. Then other kids in the row started to catch on to this and they also started asking about the baby cow. My wife turned around and told me there were 4 sets of families leaving. I then went down to the cowboys, we had a very pleasant conversation, and advised them what was happening with the kids in the stands. They stated they would cool it down and were sorry. They did not have an attitude with me, they were very polite. Next post please
Upon leaving, a sergeant from St. Charles said we get complaints of this nature every year, I wish they would get rid of this part of the show. Later that night, I went on the internet to type in rodeo abuse! I could not believe what I was looking at. wauc526, I recently ran for city council in Elgin, check out http://www.dogsdeservebetter.com you brought up a good point. I have spoke to some folks in charge of this years event, they are going to have a sit down with the company to discuss these matters.
The other site is http://www.rodeocruelty.com it appears rodeo abuse was shut down, Hmmmmm! It finally stopped raining!!!!!
I’m surprised the cowboys didn’t pants you, spit tobacco juice on you and send you into the bull pen with a red flag around your neck.
Someone should have told those kids the calves were not getting hurt and this is done all the time to keep calves with their mommy on farms. The mommies get worried and make yucky milk when they can’t find their babies so the cowboys have to get them back super fast.
Boxcar, I was suprised at their pleasant nature, but thats ok, I was ready for the oppisite. LOL.
