Keith Farnham should reject tax hike

30 June 2009 RS One Comment

Of the budget battle, Farnham believes there needs to be a bipartisan compromise, and though he didn’t entirely rule out voting for a tax increase of some sort, he doesn’t favor Quinn’s current proposal.

Farnham thinks more can be done by state government to put its own finances in order. He mentioned writing a letter to Quinn’s office in May, decrying the state Department of Human Services spending $58 million in overtime costs “when they could have saved over half that amount if new employees had been hired instead.”

Farnham also thinks that if politicians expect people to pay higher income taxes, then there should be more done on ethics reform. (Courier News)

Chicago Public Radio followed Mr. Farnham around for a bit:

FARHMAN: I don’t think it’s acceptable right now among the vast majority of the people in my district.
HUDZIK: You think you’d lose in two years?
FARNHAM: I think there would be a backlash, yeah.

Yes, there will be a backlash, and it will be interesting to see how Mike Noland does in his bid for reelection, since he voted for this tax hike.

The SEIU is pushing hard for the tax hike and they have remarkable powers of persuasion. So if you can, take a moment to let Mr. Farnham know you are among those who are against the 67% tax increase.

NO more taxes, there is constant waste in state govt. How long can all of us support this. Look at how your money has been spent with the recent news stories in the paper and television coverage. We continue to support waste at the state level and the local levels, when our politicians don’t put their personal finances our ours in order! I spoke up during the campaign on taxes and still do. All of us need to take part in the process. Call your state elected officials, come to the city council meetings and sign up to speak on issues such as this or others. See you there! M.R.
