The contract includes a 3.7 percent raise, increasing his salary to $228,140. District officials said this percentage of the increase matches what is given to all U-46 teachers for the upcoming school year.

Torres, who was hired by the district last July, also receives an $800 monthly car allowance, an increase of $150.

Amazing when every city, county and state is looking to cut cost and people are losing their jobs, U-46 thought he deserved a raised. I guess the other members that voted for the increase expects some kickback.

It is perplexing that while u-46 Superintendent praises teachers who are willing to keep working for half their salaries in an effort to save other teachers`jobs, the leader himself gets a raise. Is there any administrator out there really concerned about students and quality of education? Should a school district be run as a business and a Superintendent as a CEO?

  4. Fed Up says:

Dr. Torres does not need a car allowance. He lives close enough that he could walk. These administors really don’t care about the teachers or the students. They want only good test scores so they look good. How can you continue to give the students a good education when you have Rifed all the teachers in certain programs. All but two teachers in The Fine Art Academy at Larkin High School are gone. They will replace them with elementary teachers. Will those teachers have the skills to teach those students at the academy level? Not all students go on to college but they will not know how to hammar a nail or thread a needle. What are we allowing this District to do, only the administors count.

Here is the formula for success if you have children and are considering moving into the U-46 school district:

    DON’T!

Your children will never, ever forgive you after their 12 years of horrible schooling. Let the thousands of illegal aliens and their children infest U-46 schools NOT your children’s chances of getting into and STAYING in a quality college. U-46 grads that go onto college are not prepared for college studies and retreat to a community college in mid-semester JUST to catch up!

Parents, if you can, read the writing on the wall!

My daughter is a Kindergarten through 6th grade graudate of what is now Highland Christian Academy in Elgin on Highland Aveenue in Valley Creek.

Then she was taught at Kimball Middle School and Larking High School where she was in the Larkin Performing Arts Academy all four years.

She graduated from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois with both elementary and special education certification. We were pleasantly surprised at her graduation to hear she had the highest grade point average of all 36 graduating teachers at Lewis University that year.

She currently is in her fourth year of teaching 12th grade special education at a U46 high school. As head cheer leading coach her varsity co ed squad missed qualifying for state cheer competition by a heartbreaking .005 of a point.

A tip of the hat to Highland Christian Academy and U46 Kimball Middle School and Larkin High School teachers for educating both my son and daughter. You did an outstanding job and my wife and I appreciate it. Well done!

Millions of U46 dollars given to 100s of Chicago lawyers & 2 Chicago judges wasted on 5 families improper lawsuit, 1000 U46 job losses will effect 1000s of U46 students & families, 1 person getting a raise. None of it makes sense.

  7. Boxcar says:

Dr. Torres has done an above-average job but he’s already making an above-average salary. I don’t know of anyone who would take this job now or when he was hired. It wouldn’t surprise me if the state of Illinois took over this district eventually.

  8. Paul says:

“1 person getting a raise. None of it makes sense.”

Read it again. He got the same percentage raise as all the union teachers.
And if it takes 9 months (date of report) to get your ire up, then it probably isn’t that big of concern.

Boxcar. I’ll take the job. But then I don’t have a PHD in scamming taxpayers into million dollar retirement benefits for myself, creating multi-million dollar deficits while achieving sub-standard academic results from my school district; so maybe I’m not qualified!!!!!
