My Husband and I went for dinner last week and I have to say that we loved it! The food was wonderful. The service was great too. Everyone was very friendly. The manager that was working was very nice and stopped by to see how everything was and gave us some free tastings of the 'Red Bar' wines. We thought that was a nice touch. And she had Jim the owner give us a tour of the back part of the place where he makes his wines. Very interesting, love that, nice touch! We will be back!

My husband, daughter and I went to celebrate a birthday on Wed. July 1st-I wanted to try this new restaurant in Elgin and could not have been happier with what we found.

Open and airy with exposed brick, colorful paitings, high tin ceilings with friendly wait staff. Both Jim and Doris took time to come up to our table and chat. We felt very welcome...

The food was great-we shared all four appetizers, the carmelized onion & goat cheese thin pizza and several glasses of wine.
We will definitely return!

Paul, we can allow non-registered users to post comments on the blog side because WordPress, the blog software we're using has a good spam filter. If we allowed non-registered users to post to the forum, which doesn't have a good spam filter, it would be unmanageable.

If you want to post to the forum though you should just register. It takes literally ten seconds, and you have nothing to lose.

I went there last night for dinner. It was excellent. I had the Neopolitian pizza and my wife had the scallops. Both were fantastic. Cupcake and chocolates, along with a couple of dessert wines for dessert were delicious too. Great wines and Jim was very helpful in helping us choose wines. He also gave us a tour and explanation of the wine making process. We will be back for sure.

Went to the Red Bar for lunch with a frend. Panini's, Soup, Chocolates and Cupcakes were great! My friend and I each did a sampling of Whites and Reds. The owner, (Jim, I believe) couldn't have been more helpful and engaging. The wines were awesome. I do hope this place does well. We need more places like this in Elgin!

Agree with the review of Casa Lara. Worse than Jalapenos. http://elginite.org/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=688#p688
Same menu, same price, portions are half of Jalapenos. I always left Jalapenos stuffed to the gills, downed with decent Margaritas. Luckily we asked for another basket of chips and salsa before our order arrived so that I had something to eat after dinner!
The waitress was also the bartender and pay phone answerer. Good
for her we were the only dinner patrons at 7pm on a Saturday night (always plenty of bar patrons).
On the plus side at least the dining area TV's weren't on (we were asked if we wanted them on). Note to restaurants: I don't go to sit down restaurants to watch TV. I try to avoid restaurants that have TV's in their dining area.
WE won't go back to Casa Lara - ever.
I have yet to find a great Mexican cuisine restaurant in Elgin, which is really quite amazing given the population of Mexicans in Elgin.

P.S. I posted on this thread because I don't have to log in here unlike the thread on Casa Lara. What's up with that?

Anyway...thanks for the website! I plan to check Red Bar out this week. I'm all about supporting the local places instead of the corporate chains on Randall Road.
