I use to think that Boxcar might be a rail road buff but I am now thinking he or she has a connection with a Viet Nam war group referred to as Boxcar.

I never could figure out why people don't think enough of their opinion to use their own name.

During this time of my dog educating me on his ability to understand me and communicate with others, I decided to educate myself on canine ownership, and have since learned a lot. I will reach out to Rich Dunne, the mayor and other council members to advise them of this information. The councils decision in this entire matter of handling the dogs and the owners in what ever way they vote on, should definitely include an anti tethering ordinance for an all inclusive package to rid the city of this continuing problem so we do not need to revisit this again.

Thanks again for the support during

the election!

Hello everyone, as I previously brought up when running for the city council, numerous attacks on people by tethered dogs have been Documented, time and time again! Please check out www.dogsdeservebetter.com and mothers against chaining. Dogs are pack animals, they need attention and want to be part of a pack, even if they are not the alpha dog. When they are not cared for and are left in the back yard or garage chained up all the time, they become very territorial and aggressive. So when someone comes to close by mistake, or the animal gets loose, they attack! Charleen Sligting called me two weeks ago while I was cooking a steak and with the limited time I had, we discussed this issue. John Prigge and I have spoke twice on this matter and also have discussed how many states and municipalities have lowered the number of problems with aggressive dogs that have instituted anti tethering laws.

Five years ago my wife approached me with the idea of getting a family dog. I tried for 4 months to talk her out of it and was concerned about our cat and other elements of caring for a pooch. The Dog has now been one of the best things that ever happened to us and myself . Next blog please

I agree, but there is more than just voting on Wednesdays. I've noticed Rich Dunne is challenging things he's being told at meetings, which is really good. John Prigge has been quite impressive and doesn't appear to be intimidated. I like that he has mentioned the police department's work and that is unheard of with this panel of councilmen. Mike Warren has turned out better than I imagined although he hasn't voted against his mentor, Ed Schock yet.
Prigge and Dunne have, though, at their first meeting, even.

I predict good things for this city now that it has been proven there is no such thing as a strong Hispanic vote in Elgin.

You can watch them on TV every Sat. morning. They are learing the ropes and voting on the agenda that comes up each week. The vote on most issues is 7-0.

It has only been one month but does anyone else have a feel for how the three new Elgin councilmen are doing?

R.S. I am not clear on how you would change what you already have going. What else would you add and how will it be used in order of topics? otherwise, sounds great!
Thankyou all for the responses, two of our council members have suggested it's a great idea I have, however, I would like to hear from you how we could tweek this as to not turn it into a negative. Boxcar, very correct in not having the facts, or I may have more than others at times, however, I would look at it with the approach of a citizen or anyone who may attempt to gain public office in the future, with just the thoughts and facts I have. After all! You all voted without all the council facts and complained to me day after day, week after week with just the info. you had and your perception.
Paul, many people probably feel as you do in one way or another, you have some very good points.
Dannyblake, your point is well taken, I do not want to come off as second guessing which is why I would explain my votes in detail, and may even post how I would vote before the vote is cast that wed. night. I will research this topic more with residents, for now lets keep up with the issues and agendas and see where it takes us!

Unfair????
Every citizen ought to keep a score card. If only I was so motivated. Keep one for me, Mike. Thanks.
Aren't the politicians supposed to serve the interests of the citizenry? Not the other way around! That is the problem right there - way too many people put elected officials up on pedestals as if they are special. It should be the other way around. Or maybe treat them as little yellow bus special!

Mike, as with every citizen you have the right and even the obligation to voice your opinion regarding the political machinations of your community. If anyone doesn't want to hear it they don't have to listen. And if our elected officials don't want to hear what the citizenry have to say then they aren't right for the position.
But for anyone to imply that you should keep your mouth shut probably doesn't understand free speech and democracy.
And as far as you not being privy to the facts - are the facts secret? If the councilmen have secret facts maybe they don't understand the principles of open government and democracy either.
At least you would be keeping up on the issues and letting readers here be more aware of the issues. Please, keep us posted of what's going on with the city council.
