After 123 years, the Elgin Riverside Club — members first met on what is now North Grove Avenue overlooking the Fox River — is still going strong. And that’s pretty darn amazing when you consider how so many social clubs are struggling these days. …






















Very interesting story about the Elgin Riverside Club. I had read a book called Bowling Alone (http://www.bowlingalone.com/) at some point, which sort of chronicles the demise of such associations, and it’s good to see that in Elgin we have been able to buck the trend.
The Elks also got a new building, so they’re probably doing fine as well.
