Dennis Hastert’s 31-year old son is exploring a run against U.S. Congressman Bill Foster (IL-14). Apparently somebody has been conducting a telephone poll asking voters if they would vote for Dennis Hastert, and then asking if they would vote for Ethan Hastert. Obviously, that’s not a scientific way of polling–sounds more like a push poll, so who knows what exactly what the point of it is.

The St. Charles Sun has the bio on Ethan Hastert:

Ethan Hastert is an associate at Mayer Brown LLP in Chicago, having received his law degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 2005. He worked for more than a year in then-Vice President Dick Cheney’s office. He lives in Elburn, and is the father of a 2-year-old son.

The Daily Herald has this to add:

Before attending law school and getting a job at Mayer Brown, LLP, Hastert served as an assistant to Vice President Dick Cheney’s Chief of Staff Lewis “Scooter” Libby. He also was cited for a DUI as a young man back in 2001.

But what are his qualifications? Really, I think voters are tired of political dynasties. Being somebody’s son should not disqualify you, but it shouldn’t elevate you from being a lowly lawyer to a United States Congressmen. Age should not disqualify you either, but at 31 years old, you need to show a record of achievement that goes beyond getting a job in Dick Cheney’s office because your father was Speaker of the House.

As far as young candidates for Congress go, I’m more impressed by Nick Sauer. Now Mr. Sauer, as far as I know is not running, but if he did it would be in the 8th district against Melissa bean. Mr. Sauer has campaign experience, executive experience, and extensive volunteer experience. In short, he is a better candidate than anyone the Republicans have run against Melissa Bean. I can’t look at Ethan Hastert and say the same thing, but maybe it’s just because I don’t know enough about him.

The candidate I’d like to see run against Bill Foster is Steve Rauschenberger. Let’s get an Elginite in Congress.

What do you say?

    I like Foster!

Mayer Brown? “Lowly lawyer”? Gimme a break. As a fourth year associate he’s making a lot more than any Federal judge. Law students would dream of being in his position. For heaven’s sake, the STARTING salary at Mayer last year for new graduates was in the 160,000 dollar range. Sure, the economy is causing some cutbacks in associate lawyers’ compensation , but there’s nothing “lowly” about being a lawyer in a gold-standard firm like Mayer. On the other hand, there’s nothing there either that automatically qualifies a 31-year associate with a degree from a second-tier school like Northwestern for the office of U.S. Congressman. And I would hope that our experience with names like “Bush,” “Kennedy,” “Daley,” Stroger,” and “Jesse Jackson” would make us wary of creating another royal dynasty.

Let’s find someone who has a proven record of articulating and representing the interests and values of responsible, mainstream Americans. Sorry, but for all his reputation as “Mr. Science,” Bill Foster will never get my vote as long as he’s comfortable being in the same political movement as Daley, Stroger, Bobby Rush and Roland Burris. We can do better than Hastert or Foster.

And as many of you surely realized, I meant “31-year-old” associate. It’s late. (though given the current economy and Mayer’s partnership policies there may be some 31-year associates there, too.) Cheers.

Of course, by ‘lowly,’ I’m not referring to income. I would never describe a federal judge as lowly regardless of how much they make. On the contrary, a federal judge has a depth and breadth of experience that would elevate them above any common lawyer. I simply meant that just being a lawyer does not qualify you to be a United States Congressman. And as far as I’m concerned, there are way too many lawyers in the Congress.

Whether Mr. Hastert’s law firm is “white-shoe” or beige or brown, and whether his law school is second-tier or first-tier is probably not going to be of concern to most voters.

Politics as usual. Playing on the “stupidity or ignorance of voters” has to stop. For the first time in Elgin, the voters were in tune with what was happening around them and voted accordingly. We need change.

The whole country needs change. People were so sick of the status quo that they bought into rhetoric of a man who promised Illinoisan’s everything, but gave them nothing. Barack Obama was the most “no-nothing” State Senator we’ve ever had, but look what “money” did.

The Republican party is scrambling. While we don’t know anything about Ethan Hastert (his views on anything!), just because he’s Hastert’s son doesn’t mean squat. His biggest obstacle will be his own father. He handed the Democratic party that seat by stepping down early. Voters shouldn’t forget that.

I’d like to see someone in there who’s never been in politics and actually listens to the people, not the party. The two-party system in this country has ruined it. He who has the most money, wins.

What has Foster done since he’s held the seat, besides keep it warm??

And what they really shouldn’t forget is that Denny - as Speaker of the House and one of the most powerful politicians in America - stood by and did nothing as the illegal alien tidal wave hammered his home constituency and transformed it from a prosperous, mainstream, middle-class environment into the sort of racist, impoverished, gang-ravaged welfare plantation that sustains the Chicago Democratic Machine and its local flunkies. Of course, Denny did nothing because he was just serving the traditionally-Republican Chamber of Commerce bigwigs who are so keen for “immigration reform” so they can replace American labor with cheap and docile Mexican peons. If you want to see Denny’s legacy just drive around Elgin, Carpentersville or Aurora -in the daylight. All transformed into middleclass-free zones of Section 8 culture, welfare slaves, alien peon labor, Mexican narco-gangsterism and a few white nuts who think that this “rich diversity” would represent the perfect society if only we could stop “climate change.” Thank you, Denny.

Oh, and remember that the chairman of Mayer Brown, Little Hastert’s firm, is Ty Fahner, longtime crony and disciple of Big Jim Thompson whose brand of Republicanism (and life in general) has always emphasized interests over principles. That should give you some idea of what Little Hastert will stand for.
