Record February traffic

1 March 2009 RS 2 Comments

Despite the shorter number of days in February compared to other months, we managed to set a record for monthly traffic. Strong interest in the city council primaries pushed the number of page views to just shy of 16,000 with 6,572 unique visitors in the month of February.

We’ve come a long way since the early days of this blog when I got excited about having more than 10 uniques on any given day! When I started The Elginite, I knew of course that this niche was not one that would make me rich or famous, and that the number of visitors would always be small. The number I had in my mind has always from the beginning been 200 unique visitors a day. That was what I had always thought was the maximum we could do here, and now we are doing that and on some days pushing 400.

When the elections are over, interest in the site will subside, of course. But I’m hoping that the new features that will be rolled out in the next version of the site will make it more useful and bring in more traffic, building a bigger online community for us here in Elgin.

Thanks for being a part of the community, and let’s go for another month of record traffic!

    Congrats! You deserve it!

It might dip after the election, but with your planned changes I expect steady growth. There are places where their Gothamist gets more hits than the newspaper’s site. Elgin itself has over 100,000 people and I’m sure there are many S. Elgin, Streamwood, C-ville, Hampshire, etc. people who would also want to be readers if they knew about it.

I’m guessing the Blogburst on the Courier has helped a fair amount. I’ve applied and was rejected! For shame!

Thanks, Jessica. That’s too bad about Blogburst. Maybe if you apply again?
