Jim Oberweis statement

5 November 2008 RS No Comment

A few minutes ago, I contacted Bill Foster to congratulate him on his election victory for the 14th Congressional District. During the course of the campaign, Mr. Foster has said he will vote in a bipartisan manor and reach across the aisle to accomplish legislation supported by our district and I encourage him to do so.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the many volunteers and staff who worked tirelessly during this long campaign season. Their dedication has served as an inspiration to me as a candidate.

I would also like to say a special “thank you” to my wife, Julie, and my children and grandchildren for their unending support and love.

I am proud of the campaign that we ran this Fall. We remained focused on the issues and gave voice to the deep concerns that many voters have with their government. As a private citizen, I will continue to speak out and advocate for an end to the business-as-usual, special interest-driven system that plagues our political process in Illinois and Washington. We must restore confidence that our government is working for the taxpayers.

While standing for political office has been difficult at times for my family and me, it has also been an honor and a privilege to enjoy the support and well wishes of so many great people. I appreciate their efforts and I will continue to work to try to return the Republican Party, both here in Illinois and throughout our nation, to its traditional values of lower taxes, less wasteful government spending and a responsive, clean government.

Jim
