The only thing that's "complicated" about the illegal alien issue is understanding where the money behind it from cheap labor and narcotics distribution is going. The Mexican government pursues a policy of dumping its poverty onto the backs of American taxpayers, and there are substantial American interests - "Republican" and "Democrat" - that promote, protect and benefit from this policy. Thanks to Mr. Dalton's endorsement of Ms. Castro, we know of at least one more politician in this camp. It's obvious that many local and regional political careers are being launched on the basis of the same demographic transformations that debase Elgin's schools and sustain its narco-gangster environment.

The so-called "immigration" scandal is substantially less complicated than the Wall Street securitized derivatives mess, but the scandals are related in that they are both based upon greed and indifference to the welfare of ordinary Americans who have to pay the costs of these activities whether through deteriorating home prices, increased taxes or other burdens. As recent events in Elgin have shown, however, these costs are paid in both blood and money. If I recall him correctly, Mr. Dalton in his youth was once the beneficiary of an Elgin environment that educated kids. Now he promotes an environment that kills them. Unfortunately, tomorrow's election results will likely show he is not alone.

To Pete Culver

Let's get something straight, 287(g) is not about "undocumented workers", it's about illegal immigrants. A 12 year old kid cutting someones grass for 20 bucks cash is an undocumented worker. That is not who 287(g) is about, it is about people who are in this country illegally. Granted, many illegal immigrants are undocumented workers, but many are not. For many, the only work they do is work the system or make anchor babies, which I pay for with higher taxes.

I am so sick of hearing illegal immigrants referred to as undocumented workers. Do we call bank robbers unapproved loan recipients? Or house burglars uninvited house guests? How about car thieves, let's call then unapproved vehicle renters. It's time to stop with the politically correct BS and call them what they are. Illegal means illegal. It's really not that complicated.

Home ownership is an important factor when you are on the county board. When you are the one paying the taxes you have a healthy respect for what it feels like to shell out the money. And the Kane county board spends tax money.

I am the same age as Ms. Castro and zeal cannot equal experience. Management experience is very important at this time. Our money MUST be used wisely.

After Ms, Castro finishes her MBA and has a little managerial experience under her belt she will be more prepared.

I agree with Jessica. It should not matter how old you are or whether or not you own a home. What should matter is that individual level of maturity and understanding of the issues affecting the district and county. As far as the 287g question, Katie must not have attended the same League of Women Voters forum that I was attending or just does not understand what 287g is.

287g for those of you who are unfamiliar is a program that trains local officers to enforce federal immigration law. Christina Castro stated, as well as candidates Don Wolfe, Jeanette Mihalec, that she was opposed to 287g training. Even sheriff Pat Perez is opposed to 287g. She never said she was opposed to ICE. She said she was opposed to having the county pay to have Kane County Sheriff police officers get 287g trained. She stated that any illegal immigrant who was convicted of a serious felony or crime should indeed be deported. It again sounds like Julie Schmitt doesn’t have a good grasp of the issues affecting the district or the county. Why would we want to put her in office? I personally don’t like flip-floppers, if they flip-flop on an issue how do you know they won’t continue to do so when elected?

As far as Julie Schmitt’s answers being contradictory, let’s let the blog readers be the judge:

I visited Schmitt's website and was turned off by her claim that a person can't be a good politician without being a home owner first.

Also I'm surprised the ever compassionate and PC Green Party would support a candidate who is being ageist, implying one opponent is bad for the job because she's too young and that the other is too old.

Just because I didn't vote for her doesn't mean we can't be friends. I mean, one of her listed hobbies is biking!

SpeakingtheTruthElgin has a misunderstanding of the questions asked and answered by Julie Schmitt at the forums mentioned. The E.L.P.A.T. forum asked a general question about where the Kane County Board candidates stood on illegal immigrants. Schmitt responded that it was a complicated issue (which, of course, it is) and that "compassion" should be an integral part of any solution. The League of Women Voters' forum question specifically asked if the candidates endorsed the Kane County Sheriff implementing the 287G program WHEN PROCESSING CRIMINALS. Julie responded that she does endorse the Sheriff utilizing that program in respect to those criminals-- she only supports the 287G program FOR USE AGAINST CRIMINALS. Even Cristina Castro said she was against ICE at the county level unless a violent crime was involved. SpeakingtheTruthElgin apparently did not clearly understand the questions or he would realize Julie's answers were NOT contradictory.

As to FRWRD, I have spoken with Julie several times and she has complete appreciation for what they do in regard to the Fox River water. Does that mean we should ignore any potential or future threats to the river? Does being concerned mean she's saying she thinks nothing's being done? She simply pointed out an important natural asset we have in Kane County and expressed her willingness to protect it.

And I agree with Mr. Komodo-- can we not have an intelligent discussion without participants resorting to name-calling? I guess civility really is dead...

Shirley R's devotion to our community, should not be questioned by anyone that has been around Elgin enough and has any knowledge of her background in her time spent with Girlscouts and other projects. She is a jem and the community is lucky to have someone like her... We should be greatful for her accomplishments.....We wish her the best of luck..
At present we need someone that is hard working with the committment to serve with new ideas. I've grown to know Cristin Castro as someone that is hungry for a seat on the County Board and I think she will be someone that our District would be proud of. .I urge any Independant to contact Castro she will listen to your concerns....As far as 287(g) goes..... let's leave undocumented workers to the feds.

I don't know who SpeakingTheTruthElgin is, but their first sentence questions their integrity. One only lowers themselves by the language they use. Using that as a barometer, I think I will vote for Julie just because if she creates that much misguided passion from someone, she must actually be worth considering as a board member. The fact that she is neither a Democrat or Republican makes her just that much more attractive a choice.

I whole heartedly support Christina Castro for County Board. She will work hard to represent the voters in District 20. She has energy, enthusiasm, great ideas, has shown herself to be a tireless campaigner and is extremely well qualified. Christina is the obvious choice.

What the Heck! You admirably quote Shirley R and endorse Schmitt??? I've been to the forums; I know Shirley R. and believe me Julie is no Shirley!!! Julie is clueless and spineless, she takes a different position at each forum depending who she's talking to. So how can she stand up and get the answers when she doesn't understand the fundamentals of the issues?! But you speak well of one candidate but for vote for the lesser. Go Figure!
