Just to clarify, I meant to say the $1338.40 was from Villa Olivia Country Club. Only the $550 was from Ryland.

You're right, I don't believe he has abstained in the past due to contributions. But I believe it is unethical to vote on matters relating directly to contributors.

Thanks guys.

I didn't know they had the video service up now. That's great.

Thanks for the information about the campaign funds, Todd. I remember that the mayor has received money from homebuilders, but I don't think he's ever abstained because of it. I'm not sure it's common practice for politicians to do so though.

Just some followup information. I checked the Kane County website's candidate disclosure information, and Mayor Ed Schock received his largest campaign donation ($1338.40) in 2006 for a July fund raiser as well as a September 2006 $550 donation from Ryland homes.

I'm asking the Mayor to abstain from voting on the pre-annexation hearing due to conflict of interest.

I was going to leave the same comment--you can view meetings here: http://www.cityofelgin.org/index.asp?NID=868 Even though it says you can jump ahead and watch certain parts of meetings, I couldn't get it to do anything other than play it straight through.

I was also unable to attend, but the entire proceeding is available on the City of Elgin's website as a video stream download.

It looks like it will be a close vote. While I disagree with the Mayor's position on the issue, I do respect his decorum.

His principal argument was that the golf course is doomed anyway, so we might as well make the best of it now rather than wait. This view narrowly assumes there are no other viable options. Transitioning the property to another open space use other than a golf course should be explored.
