Caputo’s tiramisu

Caputo's tiramisu

Caputo’s opened a few weeks ago on Randall Road (and Silver Glen) in South Elgin at the site of the old Dominick’s. If you haven’t been there yet, it’s definitely worth checking out.

This is the first Caputo’s I’ve been to, and I don’t know if other locations are the same, but this store’s selection of international food is impressive. The place is huge, and they have a ton of stuff from Italy, Poland and India. If you need ingredients from any of these countries, this is probably your best bet in the Elgin area.

Most supermarkets have cakes and pastries that are inedible (too sweet, etc.), but Caputo’s are very good and inexpensive. The tiramisu pictured above cost only $1.50. Highly recommended!

  1. I am a big fan of that Caputo’s! They also have the best options I have ever seen in a big box grocery store for people who care about natural/organic foods.

Their produce section is also amazing. I was shocked to see FRESH olives for the first time in my life (they taste disgusting by the way) as well as fresh sugar plums. How often do you see fresh sugar plums in a grocery store!

  2. oops, i realize i was talking about joe caputo’s in algonquin which is different than angelo caputo’s in s. elgin.

it might not be that different; the south elgin caputo’s does have a good selection of organic and health foods.

i don’t recall fresh olives, but i love their vats of mozzarella and feta…
