Jim Krenz hearts Huckabee
Mike Huckabee is polling at 21% against Rudy Giuliani’s 23% in Illinois, where Republicans are all said to be “moderate.” For somebody with no money and little recognition in a state where he has not campaigned–and where he is supposedly too conservative, Huckabee is doing a helluva job moving up the polls. If he’s doing that well now (actually that poll was from mid-December), imagine how well he’ll be doing once he wins Iowa on Thursday and South Carolina on January 19th.
In Illinois, Huckabee will appear on the ballot on 17 of the state’s 19 congressional districts. The 14th and the 8th district, which cover the Elgin area, are among the 17.
One of Huckabee’s four 14th District delegates is Jim Krenz, who is also running in the Republican primary against Batavia legislator Tim Schmitz. Schmitz himself is a delegate for Rudy Giuliani, as is his colleague in the Illinois House, Rep. Ruth Munson of Elgin.
The 14th District delegates for Mitt Romney include former speaker Dennis Hastert, Kane County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay, and former Elgin state senator Steve Rauschenberger.
Among Rudy Giuliani’s four 14th district delegates are state house Republican leader Tom Cross, Rep. Tim Schmitz–as mentioned before, and Patricia Reid Lindner.
Kane County board candidate Larry Wegman is running as a delegate for Fred Thompson.
Voters in the 14th district will elect four delegates to each party convention. Voters in the 8th district will send four Republican and three Democratic delegates. The state Republican Party will send an additional 13 delegates, and the state Democrats will send an additional 85 delegates to the nominating conventions. In total, Illinois will send 70 delegates to the Republican National Convention and 185 delegates to the Democratic National Convention.
When you vote in the primary, what matters is your selection of delegates. Your selection of the actual candidate plays no role in the nominating process.

Schmitz supporting Giuliani is no suprise. They are both RINO. I bet Schmitz already gets invited to Giuliani’s drag parties.
Jim is a good guy and had the good sense to support Huckabee when nobody else even knew who he was. If you are voting for Huckabee, vote for Jim Krenz too.
Elgin-area Mike Huckabee supporters are invited to keep a tab on the campaign at the new Kane County for Huckabee blog:
