Elgin music renaissance emerging?

December 10th, 2007

Off With Their Heads show at the Gasthaus in downtown Elgin

Gasthaus has been doing shows since early this year, and it looks like it’s going quite well.

The Elgin Public House opened about a year ago on Chicago Street with a huge space, and I don’t think they’ve done shows yet, but it’s a good space for it. I think it will happen sooner or later.

Ravenheart Coffee opened just a couple of weeks ago down the street from the pub, and since they hosted shows at the Ravenheart shop in Algonquin, the Elgin location is also likely to become a music venue. I think in fact that they did tell the Courier they were planning on making this a real coffee shop inclusive of the music and arts scene.

And just a few days ago, Brian Peterson announced in our Elgin forum that he is coming back to Elgin to do shows at Mad Maggies which should open next to the Fountain Square condos in early 2008.

These are exciting days for downtown Elgin!

    Thanks for the link, Marc.

I don’t agree with Mr. Powers, but of those surveyed I think he gave the most honest answer.
