Yahoo search includes Flickr results
I’ve wondered for years why Yahoo, which owns Flickr, never included images from Flickr in their image search results. Instead of getting nice pictures of Elgin, we’d get irrelevant images that happened to be on pages that somehow mentioned “elgin illinois.” Well finally that has changed. On Monday, Yahoo released a major upgrade to their search service, and now you can see not just relevant results, but dare I say, pretty ones. And no, I’m not talking about the pictures I took, but you’ll notice that just about every image search result page has at least a few pictures from my Flickr account. How exciting! So I may be a biased party, but I think without a doubt that Yahoo image search is now superior to Google’s.
Anyway, I was just thinking how this goes back to what I was talking about before with Elgin 1440 and why the City didn’t make this an online contest, because these are images that go out to the world and they can have a significant effect on how people view Elgin.

I’m not so sure I like the fact that Yahoo image uses Flickr photos. I’ll have to check flickr to see if there is an opt-out for that.
I can see how there might be privacy issues…
