GBL branch design chosen

13 December 2006 RS No Comment

A preliminary design has been chosen for the Gail Borden Public Library’s first branch, and officials hope to break ground on the 10,000-square-foot building in April.

Residents of the library district can also expect to see a major fundraising campaign next year to raise money for materials to fill the branch, which will be built on 4 acres along Bowes Road west of Randall Road on the city’s southwest side. (source: Herald 12/13/06)

This is on the front page of today’s paper along with a picture of the new building. I have to say that it’s a suprisingly good design. I’d like to see more views. Hopefully they’ll post some on the GBL site. The architect is Engberg Anderson of Madison/Milwaukee.

I’m still not sure there’s a need for a branch though. And I’m afraid there will be an impact on the GBL’s ability to run the main shop, purchase new materials, etc.
