Sandor’s symbol of Elgin

7 December 2006 RS One Comment

Sandor said the building’s height, expected to surpass the Elgin Tower Building, represents a new generation for Elgin.

“The Tower Building, I think, represents Elgin in the 1920s, Sandor said. “This is going to be the symbol of Elgin in the 21st century. (source: Daily Herald 12/7/06)

The symbol of Elgin is going to be a condo.  Lovely.  I hope Sandor realizes it’s a bad omen to speak of the Tower Building and this building in the same breath.  The Tower Building, completed in 1929, marked the top of the market in that era.  The Great Depression quickly followed.  Is Water Street Place going to likewise be a symbol of market top?  Only if it gets built I suppose.

Don’t bother. I believe this was a high rise condo project to be built on the old library lot.
Gratefully, the project died of natural causes.
