When you let a convict run an election

Neuberger also criticized the county clerk for failing to get any early voting sites in unincorporated Aurora Township, or in Montgomery

Board member Holly Kissane, D-Carpentersville, said there were so many problems in Dundee Township precincts that there now are citizens talking about getting a referendum question to consider establishing a separate election commission for the village of Carpentersville.

Other board members said they, too, heard horror stories from Batavia to Hampshire about training problems, or a shortage of polling places and material.

Cunningham did not attend Monday’s committee meeting. He is attending a gathering of the Illinois Association of County Elected Officials, according to Deputy Clerk Jay Bennett. (source: Courier News 11/21/06)

Is it a surprise to anyone that Cunningham didn’t attend? I’m just surprised he wasn’t on some taxpayer-funded trip to a conference in Las Vegas or Honolulu. Well Kane County voters picked him and that’s what they deserve.

In two years, I’m sure they’ll see a replay of the post-election Chicago Tribune headlines: “Election Day chaos rocks Kane County” and “Human error gets blame in Kane County elections.” What an embarassment.

The stories didn’t seem to mention whether Cunningham’s (or shall we call him Con-in-hand?) convicted felon friend, our director of elections, bothered to attend the meeting. But my guess would be that he too had better things to do than worry about elections in Kane County.
